The Hermann-Oberth-Raumfahrt-Museum Association not only operates the museum with its permanent exhibition, but is also in possession of extensive and globally unique archive holdings on international space history. The focus is on original documents, photographs and literature on early space history.

On the basis of the archive holdings, the museum association continuously conducts research on the history of rocketry and astronautics from the beginning, especially on early space history. To this end, the team cooperates with internationally renowned space historians and is regularly represented at the International Astronautic Congresses of the IAF. Karlheinz Rohrwild, President of the museum association, is a full member of the International Academy of Astronautics.

For many years now, the Hermann Oberth Space Museum is also organizing the "Space History Day" every year at the end of June, where experts present new research results on the early days of rocketry and spaceflight.
